Tangaliya is an old exquisite woven craft practiced by the dangasiya community in adohi, Surendranagar and various parts of Gujarat.

STORY BEHIND THE CRAFT
The young boy from the bhadwad community of shepherd fell in love with a girl from the wanker community of weavers.
Shepherd herding sheeps
The shepherd learns the art of weaving from his in-laws and incorporated the wool yarns gathered from the sheep he used to herd.
MATERIALS REQUIRED

Shuttle, Heddle hook, Blade and cleaning brush
Pit Loom
Traditionally black, white, and maroon colors were used for Tangalia shawls.
COLORS
Black and white were naturally come from sheep. Black: basic color for warp and weft Maroon: in some varieties, maroon is mostly used as warp.
Natural dying
Nowadays every color is available and dyed yarns are also available in the market.
Type of Tangaliya
Ramraj
Ramraj is done on black fabric and is the brightest amongst all Tangaliya weaves-Fuschia, green and vermillion colors are used to make the Danas,
Dhunsla
Dhunslu, in contrast, has the least number of Dana work, in white and maroon, and is worn by the elderly ladies.
Charmalia
Charmalia, with mainly white Danas and a few maroon ones, give a contrasting effect with maroon and black warp with a black weft.
Lobadi
Lobadi, or Ludi, consists of simple Dana work. It is worn mainly by married women, especially the newly married ones as a mark of respect to the elders and the male gentry in the house by covering their head and face. This woolen shawl is mostly made of off-white wool, which is later dyed in the auspicious red color.
